Wed Apr 6 - Sharina Duprey "Power of Selfish"

Sharina will share the importance of putting ourselves first by sharing her own life lessons.   Many of us have experienced compromising our needs in one form or another as a parent, child, friend, or spouse.  She will touch on the challenge, fear and guilt one may feel, when putting ourselves first.
Sharina is a local Speaker and a Toastmaster. Born in Peru, she was adopted and raised in Richmond, BC. (Read more

Our Treasurer for the incoming year was also nominated and voted in by acclamation, and we are happy to report that Henry Lee will be taking on that role, succeeding Philip Li who has been a stalwart Board member for many consecutive years.

Mar 30 Meeting Highlights

Our guest speaker, Greg Brady, presented a compelling story of a fledgling school for children in Haiti.  He described woeful conditions and showed us pictures of very rudimentary facilities.  The school has been in place for a number of years, curriculum  is monitored by the Haitian government, and they have about 150 students. They include a meal program as well. The school is in need of many things and he is hopeful in his quest for fundraising that the school can be further developed and refined to meet the demand of the local community. Visit their website for more info. Thank you Lincoln for referring Greg to our club.

We were introduced to Battesetsg Ulzikhuu, a Mongolian mother of three who resides in Richmond.  She is pursuing further studies and hopes to do so at SFU if the stars align with funding and timetables,  we certainly wish her well in her pursuits.

Rotary Peace Fellow

Each year, Rotary selects up to 100 individuals from around the world to receive fully funded academic fellowships at one of our peace centers. In just over a decade, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 900 fellows for careers in peace building. Many of them go on to serve as leaders in national governments, NGOs, the military, law enforcement, and international organizations like the United Nations and World Bank. Rotary believes this is a great way to promote peace in the world. To learn more about the program here
