A troupe of very talented children and teenagers performed a dazzling show of music and martial arts at the Gateway Theatre on Aug 6, 2016. All performers are African orphans under the care of Amitofo Care Centres and Master Hui Li. Rotary Club of Richmond member Daphne Wu was CEO for the Goodwill Mission event at Gateway Theatre. She worked with local businessman Jack Lee of IDAS to plan and execute a fabulous and entertaining spectacle. Through the efforts of a community of local businesses, organizations and the generosity of key sponsors, a total of $68,800 was raised for advancing education, care and support for these and thousands of other orphans at ACC locations throughout Africa.
The Richmond Food Bank services 2,200 people per week from the Cedarbridge Way location. Their Community Liaison Alex Nixson described the scope of services provided, how clientele are served and what capacities were achievable with current resources. Whilst the number of clients served seems quite large for a wealthy community of Richmond, Alex said that perhaps those under poverty line in Richmond could be 10% of our population. There is much to do where help is concerned, whether food drives, newer equipment, bigger facilities or more volunteers. Richmond Food Bank is reaching out to the community for support and assistance.
Visitors today were Carl Hibbert and Mike Heath, guests of Debbie. James Chiu, PDG of D5080.
