om & Trevor Crean Tom and Trevor Crean are third and fourth generation fun
eral directors from Vancouver. After decades of serving families and commu
nities across the city\, Tom was disheartened by the lack of compassionate
care amongst their profession. Legislation was in place to protect grievi
ng and vulnerable consumers\, yet the laws are not difficult to get around
. In 1994\, Tom founded the Partners in Care Alliance (PICA) society\, wit
h the objective to educate and connect professionals involved with end of
life care. Since that time\, PICA has grown to include leaders in faith gr
oups\, service clubs\, hospices and unions. The message is simple: if peop
le can have the conversation about their end of life arrangements in advan
ce\, before it is an emergency situation\, those people will save their fa
mily plenty of time\, stress and a LOT of money.  Together\, Tom\, Trevor
and PICA have recently founded Metro Vancouver’s first new cemetery in
50 years. Heritage Gardens opened in South Surrey this past September\, re
inventing the role a cemetery can play in society.   Tom was the past pre
sident of the Rotary Club of Vancouver and past D5040 PR Chair.
