After decades of serving families and comm unities across the city\, Tom was disheartened by the lack of compassiona te care amongst their profession. Legislation was in place to protect gri eving and vulnerable consumers\, yet the laws are not difficult to get ar ound. In 1994\, Tom founded the Partners in Care Alliance (PICA) society\ , with the objective to educate and connect professionals involved with e nd of life care. Since that time\, PICA has grown to include leaders in f aith groups\, service clubs\, hospices and unions. The message is simple: if people can have the conversation about their end of life arrangements in advance\, before it is an emergency situation\, those people will sav e their family plenty of time\, stress and a LOT of money. Together\, To m\, Trevor and PICA have recently founded Metro Vancouver’s first new cem etery in 50 years. Heritage Gardens opened in South Surrey this past Sept ember\, reinventing the role a cemetery can play in society.
