 d is Bright&quot\; a Canadian documentory by Director Ying Wang\n\nAbout t
he film: What would you do if your only child died mysteriously in another
country and was buried sight unseen? Following the epic 10-year journey o
f an elderly Chinese couple searching for the truth behind their son&rsquo
\;s death in Canada\, what starts as a murder mystery becomes something el
se entirely. The film is a rare revelation of immigration\, mental health
and a Kafkaesque state bureaucracy at the heart of global migration.\n\nAb
out Director Ying Wang: Filmmaking was Ying&rsquo\;s childhood fantasy tha
t she never thought would turn into something real. Growing up in China in
the pre-digital era\, Ying became a journalist and photographer\, and mov
ed to Canada in her late 20s. When her younger sister developed a mental i
llness after immigrating to North America\, Ying was driven to tell their
story and directed her first feature Sisters as a self-taught filmmaker. \
n\nThe World is Bright is Ying&#39\;s second film tackling the topic of im
migration and mental health from a broader sociocultural perspective. Afte
r the premiere of the film in 2019\, Ying received the Sea to Sky Award at
the 38th Vancouver International Film Festival in 2019 and Emerging Canad
ian Filmmaker Award at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Fe
stival in 2020.\n\nRecently\, The World is Bright which has been nominated
for the Ted Rogers Best Feature-Length Documentary and Best Editing in a
Feature-Length Documentary at the 2021 Canadian Screen Awards.\n\nYing&#39
\;s credits as a filmmaker also include producing Tricks on the Dead: The
Story of Chinese Labour Corps in WWI\, a Canada-China-France co-production
that won two 2016 Canadian Screen Awards and the 2015 Vancouver Internati
onal Film Festival Audience Must See Award. While making the documentary\,
in 2007\, Ying co-founded Cinevolution Media Arts Society in Richmond\, B
