 our passion ! Rotary\, the World Health Organization\, UNICEF and the Cent
 ers for Disease Control and Prevention launched the Global Polio Eradicati
 on Initiative in 1988. In 2007\, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation joine
 d Rotary in its commitment to ending polio. Since we started the fight ag
 ainst polio\, we’ve reduced the number of polio cases by 99.9 percent an
 d reached more than 2.5 billion children with the vaccine. There are fewer
  polio cases today than ever before\, but we will not stop until we reach 
 zero. If polio is not eradicated\, hundreds of thousands of children could
  be paralyzed. Global health care costs would rise dramatically\, and many
  children’s quality of life would be drastically diminished. Brian is a 
 member of the Rotary Club of Squamish\, and past-president 2014-15. He ser
 ves as the District 5040 Chair for Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign. He h
 olds B.Sc. and MBA degrees from UBC\, and has had a career in IT and Compu
 ter Services. He joined Rotary in 2003\, while living and working in Engla
 nd. Brian was an official at the Luge event in Whistler during the 2010 Ol
 ympics. He enjoy skiing\, hiking\, biking\, and trying to play golf. He ha
 s been a guest speaker on polio at many clubs and events in the District.
  He will be travelling to Ethiopia in October with a group of Rotarians t
 o participate in the National Polio Immunization Campaign there.  “Polio
  is Rotary’s No. 1 humanitarian priority\, We are so close\, yet there i
 s still much to do. I hope\, through my role in Rotary\, that I am able t
