The tradition of our club donating to Richmond Christmas Hamper Fund, now Richmond Christmas Fund started over 35 years ago. Gordon McBurney, a frequent visiting Rotarian of Vancouver East reminded us of the need of many Richmond residents for a helping hand, a need still evident today, and challenged our club to match his donation of $100.00. Our president asked for our commitment and almost immediately, we raised $3,000.00.

Year after year, Gordon came to our club in early December, spoke of the need in Richmond, donated his $100.00, and challenged us to match it--and more!  And so, after 30 years, we carry on the tradition instigated by Rotarian Gordon McBurney, one which exemplifies the true spirit of community.

This year, our Community Chair Harmon Bal takes on the responsibility to collect Hamper Fund, so far we have raised $1,400. Please help us to reach our goal of $2,500, you can bring in a cheque to our meeting or contact Harmon through (email) or give to one of our club members.
Community Gardens in Richmond
Ian Lai returned to visit our club, to present our Club with the opportunity to participate in community gardens in Richmond.  Some community plots are being prepared for May, the cost of the project is $10,000.  Our Club is being asked to participate and fund the assembly of 13 plots in the City.  Ian explained how the plots are used by residents, not only to raise food for self consumption, but how community seems to drawn together as a social activity.  Excess production can be arranged with the Food Bank.  Construction involves, assembly of materials and actual onsite elbow grease.  Service Project Chair Harmon will make a presentation to the Board for consideration.
