Moon Festival, or the Mid-Autumn Festival is an important holiday in Chinese culture dating back over 3000 years. It takes place every year with the full moon that falls on the 15th day of the 8th month on the lunar calendar. People celebrate by eating mooncakes and admiring the full moon. This year, Rotarians gathered together at Shady Island to celebrate, and most importantly, raise money for a good cause! Through cash donations, the Rotary Club of Richmond raised $2000 for SOS Children's Village. The Children's Village is a village model for foster care with 5 homes, based in Surrey. It is a family-based alternative care to children and youth with foster care experience. It provides support to foster care youth, kids, and also caregivers through residential services, program and support services, and wraparound care. The Rotary Club of Richmond is a strong supporter of SOS Children's Village BC and they are a main recipient of our charitable donations. SOS Children's Village BC was founded in 1986 by our friends, Gilles and Lois Bouchard. It was great to see Lois at the Moon Festival. The evening also featured exciting prizes including wine, gift cards, musical tickets, and comedy show tickets! Thank you to the Rotary Club members who sponsored the prizes, and Gateway Theatre and BC House of Comedy!
