Kenny introduced todays visitors, his daughter Christa and our guest speaker Nate Toevs. Christa accompanied her dad on a "Follow your dad at work" day. President James took a bit of time to catch up on a list of Rotary topics, Car Seats Program, Rotary Foundation Million Dollar Dinner, our Feb 1st Chinese New Year Gala, Cambie Interact as well as Rotary Club of Richmond Sunset's two projects on Winter Wonderland and Park Clean Up. Our Sgt. At Arms had to rush through his collections and our guest speaker got a bit of a late start.
Nate's topic however, was very informative. He explained how funding is available for what he calls Assistive Technology. Those with disabilities may have barriers to employment, at the workplace or getting to and from their workplace. Disability could mean several things beyond wheelchairs, such as walkers, hearing aids, ergonomic workplaces, access issues and adaptive vehicles to mention a few. More information is available on their website. Nate is promoting the program as it may benefit employees, employers and volunteer agencies. By way of the slide show he introduced the people behind Neil Squire Society and how things all began with Neil's car accident and his needing to communicate via a sip n' puff machine using morse code. Nate was thanked by Rotarian David.
Join the Rotary Club of Richmond to celebrate a year of good health, good fortune and happiness!
