Our classification talk from Mahase on August 10 could be a plot for a movie. We were taken on a trip back to India two generations ago when his grandfather served for the British Army, then on a boat bound for points unknown, married by a ship's captain to a woman he never knew before and ending up in Trinidad to work in the sugar fields. The struggles of our forefathers must impart a sense of pride for us all. Mahase's story punctuates this point. One wonders about these pioneers and of their visions and dreams. He jumped forward to speak of his Rotary father, a Rotary brother, their business and then to his present day fortunes with 4 children of his own and 9 grandchildren. With background in construction, home inspections, mortgage brokerage, he has recently joined a realty group. Kenny expressed some very nice words in thanking Mahase today.
Our visitors were Linda Wong, Lincoln Yeung and a guest of Debbie, Christopher Duffin, Development Officer with the Justice Institute of BC, raising funds to enhance the education, training and overall learning experience for students in JIBC. Christopher has held different fundraising positions. He has a passion for non-profit sector and volunteering in several organizations.
