New Member Induction - Welcome Andy Lin

Richmond Rotary Inducts a new member!

Our newest member has been a Senior Financial Planner with TD Wealth since 2012. Richmond Rotary is growing exponentially, and it's always welcome news to induct a new member!
Andy was born in Taiwan and immigrated to Vancouver when he was 5 years old with his family. He and his wife are very passionate about serving the community and their Church. He enjoys building strong and genuine relationships with people.

District Governor, John Berry, was in attendance to induct our new member.

Andy and his wife welcomed their first born son last year and have really enjoyed the process of becoming parents.

A random passion of Andy is he likes collecting Pokémon cards! He has been doing this for the last 6 years and it has been a blast.

Welcome aboard, Andy!

Such an important occasion brought out dozens of members to our weekly meeting- some we hadn't seen in a while. It was great to see everyone in person!

Richmond Rotary Presents Paul Harris Fellow!

Richmond Rotary Presents Paul Harris Fellow!

On November 9th, 2022, Richmond Rotary presented its highest honor, the Paul Harris fellow to a local entrepreneur and philanthropist. Hira (Eric) Gaunder was born in Fiji Island, studied in Canada, and earned his designation as a Certified General Accountant (CGA). In 2001 he started a company with 3 employees in a garage and grew it to a 44,000 sq.ft manufacturing plant  - Hayden Diamond Bit Industries Ltd, which employs over 150 employees.
The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation. Rotarians have a tradition of supporting the Foundation by honoring others. It was an honor to have District Governor John Berry at our meeting to present the award.

Hayden Diamond Bit Industries Limited, Eric's company specializes in made-in-B.C. diamond drill bits and products for the global mining and exploration industry. But they do more than just the diamond business.

Hayden Diamond donated $50,000 to Richmond Hospital’s surgical restart campaign -  a $2 million fundraising campaign  for Richmond hospital. Richmond Rotary was intimately involved in the fundraising campaign for this important cause.

The funds ensured health care teams have access to state-of-the-art surgical equipment, enabling shorter procedures and faster patient recovery times. The  campaign represented the single largest refresh of surgical equipment at Richmond Hospital in nearly a decade.

As all of Eric's four children were born at Richmond General hospital, it was particularly important for him to donate to this worthy cause

Besides helping fund vital equipment at Richmond Hospital, Eric's company has also been a long-time sponsor of Richmond Hospital Foundation’s annual Starlight Gala and has encouraged other businesses and individuals to take part.

Thank you for coming to our meeting, Eric!
