Lunar New Year Zoom Party
The mission was "Fundraise for vital Hospital equipment".  The Rotary Club of Richmond responded with a gala evening complete with an eight course Chinese dinner, lion dance, live auction and raffle prices.

With Covid-19 restrictions in place, the event was held virtually on Zoom and with take-out Chinese dinner from the Continental Seafood Restaurant.  We enjoyed this gala from the safety and comfort of our homes, here and in Taiwan with President James and member Albert attending from across the Pacific.

Maybe we didn't have the aura of a large banquet room nor the ability to mingle with hundreds of guests, but we did all get front row seats to the Lion dance as was presented via video by Lulu.  We also all had clear view of our auctioneer Dave as he rolled through the items available.

The neck massager was the hottest items, 6 bidders trying to outbid each other, and at the end thank you to President James generosity, all 6 bidders got their neck massager.
What a husband and wife team. Carol outbid Antonio on this massage chair.

Many thanks go to President James for his donation of auction items towards this gala.  Also notes of gratitude to our other wonderful donors and sponsors, Horizon West Insurance; CBA Electrical and Security Service; Joseph Liang; Lulu Studio and Continental Seafood Restaurant.

Through the generosity of our members and guests, our raffle prizes, auction and sale of Continental dinner packages raised around $8,000, and now with District matching grants and contribution from Richmond Foundation,  we can see the way to donate about $20,000 (pending final financial wrap-up) to the Richmond Hospital Foundation for a cystoscope, part of the important and vital equipment upgrades.

Two life-saving devices installed in Richmond thanks to partnership with St. John Ambulance!
Last year, the Richmond Rotary Club hosted it`s 2020 4th Annual Lunar New Year Gala. This was a very well attended event with prominent guests, sponsors, and partners. Thanks to friends, family and Rotarians who attended and donated, we raised thousands of dollars that night.  $8,000 of the proceeds from the event went to purchase two AED's for St. John Ambulance.

We are very excited to announce that the AED's were recently installed in strategic locations around Richmond - Brighouse and Bridgeport Stations.  An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. These are lifesaving devices now located in high traffic areas in Richmond. They could make the difference in a life or death situation - and it`s all thanks to your contribution!

If you look closely, you will see the Rotary Club of Richmond logo right on the device.

Sudden cardiac arrest affects up to 40,000 Canadians each year. It can strike without warning, affecting people of all ages and fitness levels – and without rapid treatment, most cardiac arrests tend to result in death. After 12 minutes without treatment, the survival rate of SCA is less than 5%.

According to Saint John Ambulance, by having a device onsite, you save treatment time and improve the survival odds of a victim by administering the AED before emergency first responders arrive.

Brighouse and Bridgeport Skytrain station are two of the busiest stop in Richmond. All around the world, AED`s are located in busy transit stations, and the Richmond Rotary club is honored to be apart of this exciting initiative in Richmond!

The Lunar New Year Gala is one of the most important events of the year for the Richmond Rotary Club, and this exciting project shows the value of attending a Richmond Rotary event. This year`s Lunar New Year Gala was a virtual event, but we look forward to being back in person next year.

116th Rotary Anniversary - February 23
On this day in 1905, Rotary founder Paul Harris formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Since then, Rotary has continued its commitment to service by providing clean water, improving maternal health, awarding scholarships, fighting diseases, and improving lives around the world.
