Mark your calendar. The Richmond Club will be inducting the President and new board at the luncheon, bring your family, friends and potential members to the luncheon.
On Sunday, May 25th, the Rotary Club of Richmond led a dynamic and passionate volunteer team and presented the sixth annual SOS Children’s Village B.C. Run & Walk, held at the spectacular Richmond Olympic Oval Plaza. While pledges continue to come in and the total is not finalized, the amount raised by this event is looking to top $27,000.
Without the leadership of the Rotary Club of Richmond, and their President Ken Dennis, this event would never have happened. Due to several challenges we were on the brink of cancelling our sixth annual Run & Walk; however being the true exemplars of Rotary’s motto - “Service Above Self” - Ken and his team stepped in at the eleventh hour, revitalizing our wonderful run committee, and producing our most successful run ever.
The Richmond Rotarians can rest assured that their overflowing good humour, hard work, and outstanding efforts will allow us at SOS B.C. to deliver desperately needed services and support to British Columbian foster children. On their behalf, and all of us at SOS B.C., our most heartfelt thanks to President Ken and his fellow Rotarians!

June 4 Meeting Highlights
On June 4 meeting, our visitors were Mary Laing and Stu Bird both Past President of the Vancouver Club; Douglas Dunn, Executive Director of SOS Children's Village BC; James Hsieh from the Vancouver Chinatown Club and Joan Nielsen.
Speakers Mary and Stu spoke of their experience at a Polio Immunization Day in Togo, Africa. Mary indicated there were about (2) other Rotarians on this particular mission, traveling from Ghana, France, Canada (4) and the US. Working with local paramedics, they met with parents and their children, many of whom had travelled for hours to reach the site, issued drops, coloured the fingers of children immunized, and walked to various villages in order to notify and identify those who were eligible for immunization. Rotarians also rolled up their sleeves, and in sweltering heat along side several local men and women, participated in shovelling dirt to make the floor of a new school. Both Mary and Stu expressed how much they valued the experience and the impact it had on them as Rotarians, and the impact Rotarians have on others. Both are available to present at other clubs.
