Richmond Rotary attends meetings in Taiwan
President James Kao, Albert Tseng and Daphne Wu all attended Rotary meetings in Taiwan this month.

Our members were able to learn from other Rotary clubs. In Taipei, for example, they produce small banners that could be exchanged to visitors from other clubs.

Rotary is meeting in person in Taipei (at a 5-star hotel!) Here is a photo captured from President James' attendance.

And here is a picture captured by Albert Tseng (Also in Taiwan!)

Daphne Wu also represented Richmond Rotary well in Taipiei.

DG Hamilton Memorial
A memorial service was held on April 24 -10am at the Delta Funeral Home and live streamed to allow family, Rotarians and friends to attend.

DG Dave Hamilton was admired and respected for his humour, friendliness, passion for helping others and thereby being a positive influence on all those lucky enough to have spent some time with him.  PDG Garry Shearer as Emcee for the Memorial, fondly recalled the early days of Rotary Club of Tsawwassen and Dave's guiding spirit. Dave's partner Tanya, spoke of his open and friendly nature, willing to help all that he could.  PDG Darcy Long expressed how much Dave inspired others and how he would always have time for anyone.

The passing of Dave Hamilton will leave a vacuum in the world of service, to his Rotary Family and his friends, colleagues and immediate family.  Dave is not gone as long as we continue to remember him and carry on his passion for service.

Wednesday Meeting Recap
On Wednesday, April 21st, the Rotary Club of BC met with representatives from Fortis BC.

Will Zylmans and Courtney Hodson, community relations representatives from Fortis discussed Fortis's commitment to reducing GHG emissions and contributing to a cleaner economy through Liquified Natural Gas.

They also discussed the Tilbury LNG facility in Delta. Tilbury has filled more than 1,100 LNG containers for overseas, marine and trucking customers so far this year. Since 2017, LNG from Tilbury reduced more than 60,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions for our marine customers.

Fortis' vision is that Vancouver will be the west coast port of call for LNG marine fueling. LNG from Tilbury could potentially reduce GHG emissions from ships coming into B.C up to 27%!

Our Fortis representatives also highlighted the benefits to Richmond from Tilbury including $16.5 million spent directly with local Richmond businesses, over 1,700 jobs created during first phase of construction and over one million in taxes paid to Richmond in 2020.
