On Wednesday, April 21st, the Rotary Club of BC met with representatives from Fortis BC. Will Zylmans and Courtney Hodson, community relations representatives from Fortis discussed Fortis's commitment to reducing GHG emissions and contributing to a cleaner economy through Liquified Natural Gas. They also discussed the Tilbury LNG facility in Delta. Tilbury has filled more than 1,100 LNG containers for overseas, marine and trucking customers so far this year. Since 2017, LNG from Tilbury reduced more than 60,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions for our marine customers. Fortis' vision is that Vancouver will be the west coast port of call for LNG marine fueling. LNG from Tilbury could potentially reduce GHG emissions from ships coming into B.C up to 27%! Our Fortis representatives also highlighted the benefits to Richmond from Tilbury including $16.5 million spent directly with local Richmond businesses, over 1,700 jobs created during first phase of construction and over one million in taxes paid to Richmond in 2020.
