Rotary Get Inspired Talks
A beautiful and sunny day on Wednesday! And a full house at our lunch meeting! The speakers were Scott Stroshin (member of Rotary Club of Vancouver) and Roger Killen (Founder of Get Inspired Talks). Rotary International District 5040 has partnered with “Get Inspired Talks” to host “Rotary get inspired talks” on May 23, 2020. The event is aiming to attract new members to Rotary. The one-day presentation includes roster of inspirational speakers of 6-16 year-old in the afternoon and adults speakers in the evening. Members and guests are invited to join the networking event from 4:45 – 6:00 pm. Roger called for a champion from each participating Rotary Club; Suna graciously volunteered for our Club!

Other guests of the lunch meeting were our Honorary member Kenny Chiu, MP, S/Sgt. Scott Campbell (Rotary Club of Steveston) and Angie Vanderkooi. Scott is retiring by end of this month and has invited us to attend his lunch farewell party starting 11:45 am at Catch Kitchen + Bar on Thursday, February 17. Also, stay tuned for Angie’s induction ceremony in March.

Dave Takahashi just returned from his trip in Antarctica and was excited to show us his pictures of the penguins!

Dean Hsieh reported along with President Henry and Secretary Hugo, he had a Zoom meeting with Terry Chu of Rotary Club of Shanghai. “Doctors without Border” in Belgium has agreed to supply N95 masks at a special discounted price to GuoFeng Charity Foundation (GFCF). GFCF’s target is to raise $20,000 USD to donate masks to the Wuhan hospitals. If free transportation is secured, GFCF would deliver about 30,000 masks. Currently, more than 7 Rotary Clubs worldwide have contributed 17,171 € toward this mission. Our club called for a board meeting right after the lunch meeting and approved the donation of $2,000 to this relief task!

Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) courses are fun, topical and interactive for busy business, professional and community leaders who want to be more effective leaders in their vocation and their Rotary club. It’s also a chance to learn more about Rotary so all members are encouraged to participate.

Membership growth is important, and retention is dependent on the quality of Rotary clubs. Clubs with good leadership are more likely to involve their members in exciting service activities and programs helping maintain them and attract new ones.
