Why contribute to Rotary Foundation Annual Fund

The Rotary Foundation grants bring our service project ideas to life. Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.

In fiscal year 2018, The Rotary Foundation provided more than $86 million in grants.

$10.9 mil given for education and literacy projects
$36.5 mil given for disease prevention and treatment
$10.5 mil given for growing local economies
$18.7 mil given to water and sanitation projects

Global grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in Rotary’s areas of focus. The minimum budget for a global grant project is $30,000. The Foundation’s World Fund provides a minimum of $15,000 and maximum of $400,000. Clubs and districts contribute District Designated Funds (DDF) and/or cash contributions that the World Fund matches. DDF is matched 100 percent and cash is matched at 50 percent. Global grants can also be funded with endowed earnings and directed gifts.

District grants fund small-scale, short-term activities that address needs in your community and communities abroad. Each district chooses which activities it will fund with these grants. Districts may use up to 50 percent of their District Designated Fund to receive one district grant annually. This percentage is calculated based on the amount of DDF generated from a district’s Annual Fund giving three years prior, including Endowment Fund earnings. You aren’t required to request the full amount available. You’ll receive this funding as a lump sum and then distribute it to your clubs.

It is important to donate to the Rotary Foundation Annual Fund. After 3 years, contributions to annual FUND-SHARE will be distributed to the World Fund and District Designated Fund. We encourage our members to donate and make our project ideas to life.

It's always nice to step outside of our regular meeting location for a change of pace. We enjoyed a casual lunch, and it was a little less expensive too. Nice to see our friend Lincoln.

P.E. James presided over the meeting today as Pres Henry was away. James had just returned from President Elect Training sessions in Seattle, he was very impressed with the slate of speakers at PETS and how much he learned about club leadership.

March - Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Month

A project to provide clean water to all of Lebanon’s schools is uniting leaders from many of the country’s diverse religious, cultural, and political divisions.

In 2011, Rotary members in northern Lebanon decided to install new tanks and water filters in a few nearby schools with the help of a Rotary Foundation grant. The idea caught on and 2 years later, it becomes one giant water project that could reach every school and involve all 24 of the country’s Rotary clubs.

According to the committee’s technical team, it will cost roughly $2,500 a school to install water tanks, filters, and provide ongoing monitoring. About 200 schools have been covered so far. The goal is to reach all 1,535 schools within three years.
