Successful Table Tennis Tournament
Soon, the City of Richmond citizens will be able to enjoy outdoor table tennis in City Parks.  This is a result of fundraising efforts by the Rotary Club of Richmond at the first Table Tennis Tournament for Seniors held at Bridgeport Sports Club on Apr 20, 2019.

Opening the event were Mayor Malcolm Brodie, MLA John Yap, MP Alice Wong and MP Joe Peschisolido.  Also in attendance, Councillor Bill McNulty, members of the Interact Club of McRoberts, Rotarian Jim Ling from Richmond Sunset, BC Table Tennis Association and event participants, volunteers and officials.

Our own members Henry, Dean, Bill and Jim Ling took part, with Bill winning the doubles event.  Unfortunately, Henry and Dean found other competitors a little better than themselves and they did not move on to the winning podium.

Many thanks to the organizers, Bridgeport Sports Club, BC Table Tennis Association, Sponsors, Volunteers, with special acknowledgement to Chairs Bill Lau and Suna Yee as well as committee members Dean Hsieh and Letian Li.

Stay on the ball for next year's event, which we hope our club members will rally behind to support and attend.  The intent is to serve up more points for even more outdoor tables for our City Parks for the greater health of our citizens.

Emergency Preparedness
Compelling topic of discussion today, presented by our speaker, Chad McGillivary. Chad started GetMyKit over two years ago after trying to purchase an emergency preparedness kit for his family and finding nothing in stores.

Are we really prepared for disaster.....really?  Can we get by for 2-3 days without food, water, shelter, communication, heat, light....with just the clothes on our back?  The concept of a disaster occurring like an earthquake or major forest fire or tsunami.....any sort of major incident makes one pause to really think.  If forced out of our homes, if no shelter available and the world around us was in turmoil, what would you do?  Think about the images of the Tsunami in Japan a few years ago.....life as one knows it, does not exist any longer.  We need to be ready, and the information and kits introduced by Chad is an important step.  He strongly urges us to discuss this topic with family members and have a plan ready, and be ready. Find out more at GetMyKit.ca, alertready.ca and shakeoutbc.ca

Very nice to see visitors, Wilbur Walrond and Scott Campbell today.  Thanks to Sgt at Arms James Kao, for collecting happy and sad dollars. April birthday celebration are Becky, Juan and Daphne.
