Rotary gives $11,000 to Rotary Hospice!
On December 1st, 2021, Richmond Rotary donated $11,000 to the Rotary Hospice House in honor of Philip Li.
On October 2, 2021, long time and beloved Richmond Rotary member, Philip Li, passed away.  He joined Rotary in 1979 in Hawaii, later joining the Richmond Rotary club in 1984.  He was President of Richmond Rotary club from 2000-2001, serving on the board in a number of different capacities, including Treasurer, and a 3-time Paul Harris Fellow recipient.
Philip Li was a supporter of the Rotary Hospice House, and a firm believer in it's important purpose. It was one of the many projects as a Rotarian that he played a critical role to see it come to fruition. Because of Philip Li's love for Rotary, and particularly Richmond Rotary's flagship project - the Hospice House, the family asked that donations be made to Rotary Hospice House in memory of Philip Li, in lieu of flowers.
Last week, Richmond Rotary raised $11,000 in the name and honor of Philip, and presented the Cheque to Elizabeth Roach (5th from the left)  - Richmond Rotary board member and Executive Director of the Rotary Hospice House. We were honored to have Cecilia Li at our meeting (6th from the right) to help present the cheque. The money was raised from club members, family, friends and relatives, with a matching donation from the Richmond Rotary Foundation.
In September of 2005, Richmond's first free-standing community hospice finally opened its doors to the public after the Richmond Rotary Club raised $500,000 towards the facility, including capital contributions from the Salvation Army, private donors and different levels of the government.
On October 1st, 2021, we celebrated the Richmond Rotary Hospice House's 15 Anniversary with a wonderful event at the Hospice House. It was well attended with government officials, dignitaries, and the people involved in the Hospice House's creation. Over a dozen members of The Richmond Rotary Club attended.
Philip Li tragically passed away the following day - and we honor his memory with the donation we made today.
