We had total 37 attendees, so happy to see some members joining the online meeting for the first time. Our warm welcome to visiting Rotarians from Whistler Millennium, Lillooet, Ladner, Tsawwassen, Richmond Sunset, Lionsgate, Vancouver Arbutus, New Westminster, Steveston and Johnstown, Pennsylvania
Our speaker was Rotarian Dr. Mary Berge, a clinical psychologist from Pennsylvania. During the Covid-19 Pandemic, she talked about things we can do to give ourselves some control to create balance.
Firstly, the information overload is making us feel overwhelmed and become anxious. Therefore limit looking at information to 2 times a day, and only from reliable resources.
Secondly, at this time we have a lot of negative thinking, we have to catch it and tell ourselves to “STOP”, think about what is positive in our life, write down something we are grateful for. Look into the mirror, smile and hold for 10 seconds. Long smiles releases dopamine and changes our brain chemistry.
Thirdly, to avoid cabin fever, we have to create a daily pattern, a schedule of activities in two hour chunks, it will be less monotonous. We can also listen to Bio-lateral music to help us relax.
We should look at this challenging time in a positive way, as an opportunity to learn, to connect and to access. When we come out from all these, we will value things in a whole new way and become a better person.
