Wed Jan 30 Luncheon - About the film "The Beast" by Charmaine Hammond

The Beast (to be released fall 2019) is an animated disaster documentary turned story of inspiration that will make you laugh and has the power to heal. The story is an animated re-imagining of the largest wildfire evacuation in Alberta's history and most costly disaster in Canadian history. Inspired by the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire disaster.

The Beast takes real interviews of real survivors of the Fort McMurray wildfire and injects them into the world of animals in the Boreal Forest.

Charmaine Hammond is an expert in communication, resilience and collaboration.  As a professional speaker, she has presented to more than 300,000 people around the globe and to more than 25 Rotary Clubs across North America.

Children's Cartoon Competition
Attendees today learned about a different style of art competition.  Started by Maggie Li, 5 years ago, the International Children's Cartoon Competition has expanded to many thousands of entries and several countries around the globe.  In Canada alone, there were over 700 entries, the best of which were displayed in a souvenir book.  This competition is aimed at youth under 18, and although is called a Cartoon Competition, exhibits followed many themes and styles of art.  The deadline for 2019 Canadian competition is March 10. The themes this year are Happy Birthday, Food Imagination and My Funny Life.   We learned today, that the organizers wish to use the competition as a fundraiser and support the Rotary Foundation, Polio Plus campaign.  More information will follow.
