On March 26th, 2022, Richmond Rotary hosted it's annual Lunar New Year Gala at Continental Seafood Restaurant. The Year of the Tiger dinner was a fundraiser for Rotary Hospice House, SOS Children's Village BC, Pathway Clubhouse Richmond, and organizations that support low-income seniors buying iPads or computers. We raised money through online, live and silent auctions, a push up contest, and donations. In total, Richmond Rotary raised $20,000 for our partner organizations! The night was a resounding success thanks to the tremendous hard work of event organizers President Suna, James, Dave, Madeline, Yuhan, Vicky, Hugo, Bill, Cindy, Dean, Patty, Daphne, Christina, and Keith! The evening featured entertaining performances, speeches, push up contests, and great company. The live, silent and online auction took work, planning and organization and were a big hit with the crowd! As the Province has only recently lifted restrictions, it was a great experience to be back in person for the 2022 Lunar New Year Gala after last year's virtual event.
Joseph Liang and Chantelle Roy MC'd the remarkable evening - and both looked fantastic. Recognizing the importance of the event and evening's prominence, a number of dignitaries and special guests were in attendance, including Richmond Mayor, Malcolm Brodie, Deputy Director of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver, Chen Shuzi, Anne Kang, Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Chak Au, Richmond City Councilor, and Henry Yao, MLA for Richmond South. The evening featured performances and dances from Little Flower Academy's "The Little Cuties," and dancers performing traditional Japanese and Korean dances. And there was even a guest appearance from the God of Wealth. (Can you guess who it is?) There was a caligraphy writing contest. And a push up contest that raised $3,354! Thank you to all who attended and participated in such a successful event to support our partners.
