Did you know that there is a formal process for selecting the notable Canadian chosen to be pictured on our paper money?  The next change scheduled is the $5 note.  This is the government link on the protocol behind the selection mechanism. Evidently over 600 names were submitted and the candidates narrowed down to a final 8 notable people, all compelling and remarkable Canadians. Check out bankofcanada.ca 

 

Wednesday, April 13, we were graced with a presentation by MP Han Dong from Ontario.  He encouraged everyone to sign and circulate a petition to select Won Alexander Cumyow to be featured as the face on the redesigned five dollars Canadian bank note.  The story behind Mr. Won Alexander Cumyow and the link to the petition E-3960 

Following MP Han Dong, our very own District Governor Lorne Calder presented some history on the Rotary Clubs in the Ukraine.  The first club in the Ukraine was formed as soon as that country gained it's independence in 1991.   Their stellar work over the past 30 years is facing very precarious moment in time.  Rotary calls on the whole world to come to the aid of our friends and neighbours in the Ukraine.  Find out more about what Rotary is doing and how you can support relief efforts at www.rotary.org/en/rotary-responds-ukraine-crisis
