Global Warming

Tiara Letourneau is one of those speakers that holds the audience spell bound with her sobering message.  The scope of global warming is both alarming and inspiring.  Whilst debate continues as to the existence, degree and impact of global warming, there is no denying that the world's population is growing.

Our speaker postulated that our earth may be home to 15 billion people by 2100.  With all those humans living, consuming, building and producing, logic suggests that there will be a "knock-on" effect.  How things will turn out for future generations depends on how we care for each other in decades to come.  Meanwhile, weather patterns will change, rainfall patterns will change, temperatures will likely rise, ice caps will likely melt, ocean levels will likely rise, populations along coastlines will likely be migrating in the billions.

Sobering, isn't it?  This writer cannot effectively capture what Tiara said today, and hopes she gets to speak again or our readers will have another opportunity to hear her in future.  She leaves us with the message to continue to be Rotarians and care for others around us.
