RAPS is proud to be a no-kill organization, which is among the reasons we have built a strong and devoted community of animal-loving allies.

About the speaker
Mandy Lichtmann, Community Engagement Manager
I am an animal lover at heart and feel blessed to have been with RAPS, the Regional Animal Protection Society, for 12 years. Working in the not-for-profit sector is very important to me. Before RAPS, I was the Wish Director at Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon for 11 years. I stepped down from my role at Make-A-Wish when our youngest daughter began preschool part-time and started as a volunteer at the City of Richmond Animal Shelter on 5 Road when RAPS ran the animal control contract. I was hired, on a part-time basis, to cover shifts for absent staff as an Animal Care Attendant. Eventually, I was hired on full-time as Volunteer Coordinator. I am currently the Community Engagement Manager for the organization and that has me doing varied tasks! I manage most of RAPS’ social media posts and manage relationships with local key pet food stores and suppliers who donate regularly. I also arrange and attend cat & kitten adoption events in the community. I engage with community members by way of school, club and senior’s residences – which usually has me bringing animals with me, so youth and seniors can interact. Another part of my role has me arranging and supervising group volunteer visits to RAPS Cat Sanctuary and the RAPS Thrift Stores. Groups who come in to volunteer on special projects include corporate teams, special interest groups and school classes and clubs. I also arrange special visits to the RAPS Cat Sanctuary for interaction with the 380 cats who call RAPS Cat Sanctuary home, for at-risk youth. Some of the groups I work with to arrange visits and volunteer sessions include Indigenous youth at risk through Indigenous Family and Child Services, Leadership & Resiliency program youth through Youth Addiction and Prevention Services at Vancouver Coastal Health, Canuck Place Hospice, different seniors’ residences – Amica locations & the Weinberg Residence and elementary & high school classes and groups with relationships with Richmond, Vancouver, Coquitlam and Burnaby schools. Some of the corporate groups I have worked with this year for group volunteer experiences include the AME Group, Apple Metrotown Store, Ingram Micro, Intact Financial, Internex International Exchange, Maximizer Group, Pinchin and the Workday Group.
