Refugees seeking entry into Canada....how does it work, what happens if there are appeals?

Evidently there is a backlog of over 100,000 refugee appeals that require presentations and hearings.

Last Wednesday, we listened intently to Roslyn Ohara, a long time federal adjudicator who provided an insight into how the system works and challenges facing all parties.

It is comforting to know that our Immigration officials are very conscientious about screening refugees into Canada.

Refugees must meet stringent entry requirements and provide proof that they are avoiding persecution in their home countries.

We thank Tony and Nancy Yurkovich, Rotarian since 1962, for bringing us Roslyn, and the topic of Refugees.

If you have a topic or speaker you wish to present to Rotary, please contact Programme Chair Jimmy Yan.

Zoom meetings bring visitors from all over Canada. Besides our speaker Roslyn from Georgetown, Ontario, we also have her former colleague Layne Daggett joining us. Other visitors were Past District 5550 Governor Peter Neufeldt who Keith and Becky met in Spain while attending RI Convention in Barcelona, Doug Kydd from RC Prince Rupert, a long time friend of Keith, John Charbonneau from RC of Tsawwassen, Sammy Li from RC Burnaby and Joseph Liang who visited us the first time last week.

So nice to see Antonio, this is the first zoom meeting he attended.
