Richmond Rotary, and all Rotarians, remember and honor a lifetime of service and sacrifice.
While we all know of the Queen's support for the less fortunate, her dedication to peace, and mission to make the world a better place, the Queen was also a fervent supporter of the work of Rotary.
The queen was a supporter of Rotary's polio eradication and humanitarian missions. She received the Rotary International Award of Honor, the organization's highest recognition, in December 2013 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her coronation. Her late husband, Prince Philip, was an honorary member of the Rotary clubs of Kings Lynn, Windsor & Eton, and Windsor St. George, England; and Edinburgh, Scotland.
In a message sent to Rotary club members in Great Britain and Ireland and the Commonwealth for its work on polio eradication, she said “I am pleased that Commonwealth governments are playing their part in tackling disease and improving health for all. Polio for example, used to cast its shadow across many countries and today, thanks to concerted international action, just a handful still need to eliminate polio.”
