Great job! The Wuhan Coronavirus Relief Task has been completed. 32,083€ (US$35,000) was raised to purchase 23,585 pcs of medical grade N95 Masks and 1,150 Protective suits, they were delivered to 5 hospitals in Wuhan.

How it began: Last week of January with an urgent pledge from a volunteer and a group of Chinese students in Israel, Shanghai Rotarians responded to support some medical supplies to the frontline medical personnel in a couple of hospitals in Wuhan.

Rotary in Action: In early February, Rotarians in Shanghai connected with close to a dozen Rotary clubs and districts from France, USA, Canada and China and raised a pool of fund to import medical supplies from oversea.

With the great help from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF, Doctors Without Borders in English) from Belgium, 23,585 pieces of N95 medical grade masks were secured, GuoFeng Charity Foundation and a group of logistic professionals in Shanghai helped the Rotarians to import the medical supplies to China. This supply was consolidated with another 1,000 masks and 1,500 protective suits sourced locally and couriered right away to 5 different hospitals in Wuhan.

Rotarians also organized 250,000 gloves from California and delivered to 2 other hospitals in Wuhan by Alibaba’s service. All these hospitals were at the front line institutions confronting the epidemic, and they confirmed receipt of the supplies on Feb. 25th, March 5th and March 11th respectively.

Rotary Connects the World: While the Rotary effort seems to be relatively small compared to the huge mobilization of resources of all kinds by the local government, Rotary Connects the World is amplified vividly in this time-sensitive mission as Rotarians from different continents all worked together to achieve the same objective and to serve the people in great needs. Technology also helped when Rotarians could communicate and coordinate the whole mission not affected by the geographical and time restriction, further embraces the Rotary New Vision of bringing Rotarians to Action. We sincerely hope the medical personnel can have better protection from their harsh working environment and be back home safely.
