The lost Art of Conversation - Ronn Martin and Clinton Lee - September 3rd, 2025

In a world of screens, cell phones, self serve checkouts, voice recordings and AI, we are losing the ability to connect with each other. Whether you are in sales, have a job interview, coaching a sport team, wanting to make friends, or finding a partner, it is important to take the right approach.

2025 General Assembly

Rotary Club of Richmond General Assembly - August 6th, 2025

The Rotary Club of Richmond completed a successful General Assembly.

From the General Assembly, the club has set out a plan to strengthen its operations, improve community impact, and develop future leaders.

To build a stronger club, weekly meetings will be restructured to feature classification talks, Rotary Moments, and icebreaker speeches. A membership survey will be circulated, and efforts will be made to ease the financial burden on members by making key events like the Christmas and Installation Dinners more affordable. Planning for the 2026 Lunar New Year Gala will focus on clarifying the fundraising purpose, distinguishing essential from optional elements, and ensuring financial transparency through early committee formation, regular updates, and a year-end financial report.

On the community side, the club will begin project discussions in September, with a focus on hands-on local initiatives such as a sports fund, Girl Guides support, a youth academy, and a Richmond Wellness Hub. Broader engagement will include hosting business forums for members and inviting political leaders.

Internationally, project proposals include supporting an education centre in Uganda and improving water access in Somalia. To build future leaders, the club will integrate educational sessions and history into weekly meetings, involve non-board members in leadership activities, engage inactive members, and enhance delegation and committee follow-up. This approach ensures the club strengthens internally while making a meaningful impact locally and globally.

Rotary / Baseball Association Collaboration

Rotary Club of Richmond and Richmond City Baseball Association form new Collaboration!

Thanks to Yuhan Chen's hard work, and passion for baseball, multiple Rotary clubs participated in the BC Minor Baseball 11U AA Provincial Tournament at Palmer Baseball Complex

At the Minor Baseball Tournament, the Rotary Club of Richmond and other Rotary Clubs provided volunteers for first aid tents, and other volunteer duties at the tournament.

In return, as a result of this collaboration, the Rotary Club of Richmond was able to promote our club at the tournament, showcasing all the good work we do in Richmond and BC.

This was a great opportunity to promote the great work of our club to a new audience!

First Four Club Meetings!

In July and August 2025, the Rotary Club of Richmond held its first four meetings.

The Rotary Club of Richmond kicked off its new term with events, meetings, and exciting plans for the future.

At our first few meetings, the Club discussed how the Rotary Club of Richmond can continue to thrive into the future.  We are strong with 42 members, but we are looking for ways to attract new members, and continue strong engagement.  We discussed how to modernize our IT infrastructure and website for better functionality; proposed future networking initiatives; more and more social events; and proposals for innovative ideas like a Rotary Thrift Shop in Steveston.

At our first four meetings, committee chairs shared updates on ongoing initiatives, including fundraising plans, the club’s nomination for Association of the Year, and progress on district foundation activities, with reminders to contribute auction items and attend the upcoming dinner. Members also discussed a range of community and fellowship projects, from a high-visibility house sign program to improve emergency response, to multi-club fellowship events such as the Labour Day picnic and mid-autumn gatherings.

A key theme in our meetings has been brainstorming the importance of building partnerships, exploring collaboration opportunities with the Richmond Rotary Club and international sister clubs, as well as engaging younger volunteers through organizations like the Girl Guides.

The club additionally committed to improving member attendance to 75% by June 2026, and our newest member, Rajan will be taking on social media responsibilities to enhance the club's visibility and recruitment efforts.  Thanks, Rajan!

New Member!

At our July 23rd meeting, we were thrilled to welcome a new Rotary Club of Richmond Rotarian, Eunice Wu!

Eunice transfered from the Rotary Club of Taipei An Tong.

Eunice is the General Manager of Tender Way Home Care Services Ltd. She moved to Vancouver from Taipei, Taiwan, three years ago and now lives in Langley. In Taiwan, she was an active member of the Rotary Club of Taipei An Tung (District 3522) from 2020 until she transferred in 2025. During that time, she served as the club secretary and participated in numerous community service projects.

Outside of work and Rotary, she enjoys reading, traveling, and staying active through exercise.

Community Updates

We have also started a new feature - a monthly Community Update with updates on political, social, and community updates in Richmond and BC.  Rotary Club of Richmond members, MP Chak Au and Zach Segal are both politically engaged and will be sharing updates.

Last month, we heard from Zach Segal who ran in the most recent federal election for Richmond-East Steveston.  He spoke about issues of crime, homelessness, poverty and the economy in Richmond and BC, and the upcoming municipal election in Richmond.

In August, we heard from another Richmond Rotarian, MP Chak Au, who was elected as the Conservative Member of Parliament in Richmond Centre- Marpole. He spoke about recent developments in Richmond around the recent Cowichan land claim debate.

Councillor Chak Kwong Au - City of Richmond, BC

Classification Talks

We also heard from our newest member, Rajan Paul, in a classification talk.

Rajan is a lifelong resident of Richmond. In fact he's lived in the same neighbourhood my entire life. He is a big believer that a strong community is built on what you give back to your community.

He has served his community for 30 years as a shelter worker, running a homeless shelter for the Salvation Army. He has also volunteered for 7 years as a community sports coach - Richmond Raiders, Richmond FC, Richmond Ball Hockey Association and Richmond and Cosom Hockey Association.

He also held the position of vice president of the RDPA (Richmond District Parents Association) 2023 to 2024.

He currently hold the position of President of the Richmond Hospital Healthcare Auxiliary and is the manager of the Richmond Hospital Thrift Shop in Steveston.

Multi-Club Fellowship Halfmoon Bay

Four Rotary Clubs gather for a day of Fellowship!

On August 16th, 2025, four local Rotary clubs travelled to the Sunshine Coast to meet up our Rotary neighbors. In recent years, the Rotary Club of Richmond has been engaging in more social and fellowship opportunities.  Thanks to Madeline and her generous hospitality of hosting at her place, this was a great opportunity for our club.

The Rotary clubs visited Rotary Friendship Park with Rotarians from Sunshine-Coast-Sechelt.  Rotarians then met up with 5 clubs in Sunshine Coast, including District Membership Chair, Ross Cooper; AG, Michael McKenzie; RC Gibsons President, Dave Taylor and several others.

All 35 or so Rotarians had a chance to meet each other, and explored the possibility of future Rotarian project collaboration between RC Richmond and Rotary clubs in Sunshine Coast.
  • RC Powell River
  • RC Pender-Harbour - Madeira Park
  • RC Sechelt
  • RC Sunshine Coast - Sechelt
  • RC Gibsons

Our President, Yuhan Chen, even had a gift exchange with Sunshine Coast AG, Michael McKenzie.  Yuhan presented the Rotary Club of Richmond mug to Michael, and Yuhan accepted the RC Sunshine Coast banner from Michael.
