World Immunization Week
World Immunization Week, 24-30 April, is an opportunity to focus on Rotary's work in the fight against Polio. The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) estimates that polio vaccines have saved an estimated 20 million children around the world from paralysis.

When Rotary helped launch the GPEI in 1988, the disease paralyzed more than 1,000 people worldwide every day, most of them young children. Since then, Rotary and its partners have reduced the number of polio cases by 99%, and in 2021 there were just six cases of polio caused by the wild poliovirus. Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two countries where the wild poliovirus remains endemic. Watch video "Every Vaccine counts"

Amici Curiae (AC) Friends of the Courts
Our April 20 speaker was Dom Bautista, Executive Director of Law Courts Centre.

AC provides free legal assistance to British Columbians who require help complete legal forms, or prepare for their virtual appearances. AC’s services are provided on the principle of equal access to justice regardless of your means.

The Legal Forms Workshops, known as Amici Curiae (Friends of the Courts) are the brainchild of Dom. Paralegals donate their time as volunteers to help clients with the forms; and at each workshop, a lawyer, also a volunteer, oversees the work done by the paralegals. They do not provide any legal advice.

The six in-person workshops have been suspended during the pandemic, two of the workshops are now open, last Thursday of the month in Carnegie Community Centre on the Downtown Eastside, 2nd Wednesday of the month in CHIMO, Richmond. You can request a Virtual appointment here

Check out their youtube channel for the Everyday Law Series. The Bubble Tea Gang is working on translating the videos into different languages. Other useful resources can be found at https://www.legalformsbc.ca/useful-materials.html#/  AC is hard at work to translate their own internal forms in different languages. They believe multi-lingual legal information increase diversity, equity and inclusion.
