Two outstanding Speakers

Only rarely do we have a double feature.  Today was one for the record books, two outstanding and informative presentations at our noon Zoom with 18 attendees

First up, our own Dave Rogers, who by virtue of many years driving trucks and buses in all conditions, steered us through some basic winter driving safety concerns.  Maybe driving fast, tail-gating, braking hard and changing direction without signalling are not savvy winter driving habits one should practice.  Dave emphasized extra caution in winter as slippery conditions make braking and steering much more difficult.  One more thing, he said, "be patient", another minute or two isn't that important.

For our matinee feature, guest, Nancy Eidsvik, past Assistant Governor, walked us through District 5040 website and myrotary.org.  She showed us how to log on, and where to navigate our way around.  She indicated that the District 5040 login is the same as our own Club website logon.  Myrotary.org requires a different login, and once you are set up, one has access to enormous resources.  In fact, the learning centre has segments in various languages, thus providing greater access to our worldwide members.  Knowledge is the key that opens up Rotary and provides doorways to countless opportunities for service, friendship and social activities.  myrotary.org offers an open invitation to get to know Rotary.  See you inside.

Jan 27 Meeting Summary

A warm welcome to our visitor today Major Ed Chiu, pastor of Salvation Army. He first came in contact with Rotary in 1994, please join our meeting again soon.

Board Member Zach was asked by the Kehila Society of Richmond to reach out to our members and friends about their Rose Angel’s initiative. Every February the society distribute care packages to vulnerable people in Richmond through a couple dozen of not-for-profit agencies. Last year they gave out 1,500 packages. They are looking for (as many as possible) : Toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss,  feminine hygiene products, mini mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner and bar soap. To donate, and to arrange for a contactless pickup, please email: rosesangelsevent@gmail.com

P.E. Suna encouraged and promoted the upcoming Superbowl festivities.....featuring a fun quiz and prizes.  Club Admin Angie spent a lot of time making arrangements for our enjoyment.  Have fun watching the Superbowl and oh, remember to send in $10 to Jacqueline for your quiz sheet.  Send your answers to Angie.  By the way, if you don't know the answers, just guess.  That's what I did, I just guessed.

P.E. Suna also encouraged us to expand our reach to sell more raffle tickets and Dinner certificates of our Lunar New Year Zoom Dinner at Home on Feb 17th.  Our goal is $20,000 for Richmond Hospital medical equipment.   To reach that goal means our Dinner needs to meet $6,800, and hoping for District grant as well as a contribution from our Rotary Richmond Foundation.  Our annual Lunar New Year Gala will be postponed due to Covid-19, but we have plans to break our fundraising into segments.  This LNY Zoom Dinner is the first segment.  Later in June we will undertake a walk, with those funds earmarked for Minoru Seniors Centre. To see event detail....

Wrapping up today, our efficient Sgt. at Arms, once again reaching into our jeans for a few happy and sad dollars.  Dave dispatched his duties very well, and another tidy sum was collected for a future club endeavour.
