Celebrating a year of Accomplishments
The COVID restrictions did not stop us from helping our community and people in need. Some of our members have not even met face to face. We managed to carry out several fundraising projects:

Donated 1,000 bottles of hand sanitizers and 2,000 disposable face masks to low income families through Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives.

Donated 6,000 masks with a retail value of $3,000, and $1,200 for a Christmas lunch for 100 low-income seniors through the Minoru Seniors Society.

Held a shred day and raised approximately $3,000 for the Gateway Theatre Summer Camp for kids and Chimo Community Services

Our Chinese New Year Zoom Party raised $8,000, with District Grants and contributions from the Rotary Richmond Foundation, we are planning to donate total of $20,000 to the Richmond Hospital Foundation for a cystoscope, part of the important and vital equipment upgrades.

Our annual contribution to the Richmond Christmas Fund.

A BIG Thank you to President James, PE Suna and the board for pushing forward all the projects, our members for their fundraising effort and our friends for their continuous support.
Presidential Theme - 2021 - 2022
The 2021-2022 Rotary year begins on July 1st. As we approach the new year, it's important to know and understand this year's new theme.

Revealed earlier this year by RI President-elect Shekhar Mehta, the 2021-2022 theme will be Serve to Change Lives. The goal will be to promote more service projects amongst members.

There will be new logos, brand and images to go along with the exciting new theme.

There will be a strong focus this year on diversity. Members should focus their efforts on empowering girls and ensuring their access to education, resources, services, and opportunities so that future generations of women leaders will have the tools they need to succeed. Rotary believes that diversity, equity, and inclusion is critical in all we do as a compass to guide our work.

Expanding our membership will also be a critical theme this year. To be able to do more through service, Rotary needs to increase membership. President-Elect Mehta has an Each One, Bring One initiative - every member brings one person to join Rotary within the next 17 months.

Wednesday Meeting Recap
The Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II is expected to be marked in 2022 in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth - the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952.

In the UK, a Platinum Jubilee medal will be created to mark the Jubilee. It will be awarded to people who work in public service, including representatives of the Armed Forces, the emergency services and the prison services.  This is similar to the Diamond Jubilee medal awarded in Canada in 2012.

A number of Canadians are encouraging the Government of Canada to create an award to honor the Platinum Jubilee.

A petition was even recently created that "calls upon the Minister of Canadian Heritage to maintain tradition, respect this unique and momentous celebration of Her Majesty's long and illustrious tenure and indeed make plans to create a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal with which to extend her Majesty's Grace in awarding recognition to outstanding Canadians deserving of such a medal."  https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-3310

If this is an issue that interests you, you can contact your local Member of Parliament and encourage them to take up the cause of awarding Canadians a Platinum Jubilee Medal: https://www.ourcommons.ca/members/en
