The Rotary Club of Richmond is pleased to announce a recent donation of $5,000 to the Richmond Hospice House, reinforcing its longstanding commitment to compassionate community care. On hand to receive the donation were Suzie Farrell, Executive Director of Grace Health Services of the Salvation Army, and Bal Bains, Director of Care at Richmond Hospice House.
Richmond Hospice House, initially built by the Rotary Club of Richmond, has provided essential end-of-life care and comfort to countless families in our community. Suzie Farrell and Bal Bains expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary Club for its unwavering support over the past 20 years.
Last year's Rotary donation significantly contributed to vital maintenance and upgrades at the Hospice, including fence repairs and the acquisition of a new oxygen concentrator, directly enhancing patient comfort and care.
The Rotary Club of Richmond remains dedicated to making meaningful impacts through continuous support of critical community services like the Richmond Hospice House.
On May 3, 2025, the President of the Rotary Club of Richmond attended the official reopening of the Lytton Chinese History Museum, a significant milestone in the preservation of Chinese Canadian heritage. The original museum was tragically destroyed in the devastating wildfire that swept through Lytton in 2021.
Following the disaster, museum founder Lorna Fandrich launched a campaign in 2022 to raise funds for the museum’s reconstruction. The Rotary Club of Richmond proudly supported this important cause by contributing to the rebuild fund. (Read more about our support: richmondrotary.com/Stories/lytton-chinese-museum-(recap))
The rebuilt museum once again stands as a powerful tribute to the contributions of Chinese pioneers in British Columbia and their harmonious coexistence with Indigenous communities. It serves as both an educational resource and a symbol of community resilience.
Grace Tsang and Jason Tam, members of Richmond Sunset Club, recently returned from a Rotary Friendship Exchange trip to Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. During their journey, they engaged with local Rotary clubs, shared fellowship, and built meaningful cross-cultural connections. Their visit not only strengthened international Rotary ties but also enriched our club with new perspectives and stories.
A heartfelt thank you to Grace and Jason for representing our District 5040 with such enthusiasm and goodwill. Your journey exemplifies the spirit of Rotary friendship and global service.
Today, we were also pleased to welcome two potential new members to our club meeting. We shared with them a brief introduction to Rotary—an international service organization that brings together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, promote high ethical standards, and advance goodwill and peace around the world. Rotary’s mission is “Service Above Self,” and its global network connects over 1.4 million members in more than 46,000 clubs worldwide.
In response to the tragic car attack on Lapu-Lapu Street in Vancouver on April 26, 2025, which left multiple victims injured and caused deep grief in the Filipino-Canadian community, members of the Rotary Club of Richmond have stepped forward to offer support and solidarity.
Several club members made direct financial donations to help the victims and their families during this difficult time. In addition, a group of 20 Rotarians and their guests attended a special fundraising dinner organized to raise funds for those affected by the tragedy. The event served not only as a gesture of compassion, but also as a reaffirmation of our club's commitment to community service and multicultural unity.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims and their loved ones. Rotary stands for peace, support, and service above self—and in moments like this, we are reminded of the importance of coming together in kindness and action.
For those who wish to contribute, we encourage donations through trusted community relief efforts organized for the Lapu-Lapu Street victims.
On May 21, 2025, the Rotary Club of Richmond proudly presented a $5,000 donation to the Minoru Senior Society. The funds were raised during the club’s successful Lunar New Year Gala earlier this year, with proceeds supporting programs that benefit low-income and isolated seniors in the Richmond community.
Henry Beh, First Vice President of the Minoru Senior Society, attended the cheque presentation and expressed appreciation for the club’s long-standing support.
The Rotary Club of Richmond has been a dedicated partner of the Minoru Senior Society for many years, especially through its participation in the annual Christmas Meals on Wheels program. Every December, volunteers from our club help deliver festive turkey dinners to more than 100 isolated seniors across the city. For many recipients, this meal is not only a warm holiday gesture but also the only visitor they receive during the season.
“Our members are deeply committed to supporting Richmond’s seniors with both funding and hands-on service,” said Club President [insert name]. “We’re proud to contribute to a program that brings comfort, connection, and dignity to our elders.”
The Rotary Club of Richmond remains dedicated to creating positive change in the community—locally and globally—through service, fellowship, and generosity.
On May 24, 2025, members of the Rotary Club of Richmond proudly attended the End Polio Now awareness event held at Aberdeen Center. Organized by the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunset, the event brought together local clubs, community members, and volunteers in a shared mission to help eradicate polio worldwide.
This was not only an important opportunity to show solidarity with Rotary International’s flagship cause, but also a chance to connect with Richmond residents and raise awareness about Rotary’s broader impact. Our club members engaged with visitors, shared stories from our recent service projects—such as the Thanyaburi Hospital fundus camera donation and our ongoing support for local seniors—and introduced many passersby to the values of Rotary.
We thank the Richmond Sunset Club for hosting such a meaningful event and for giving us the chance to help inspire the next generation of community leaders.
Together, we are one step closer to a polio-free world.
