Addressing the Escalaring Addiction Crisis in Our Communities by Candace Plattor

According to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, approximately 50% of Canadians report worsening mental health since the pandemic began, with many experiencing increased feelings of fear, anxiety, and depression.

This has caused many Canadians to turn to drugs and alcohol as a way to cope. Studies show that approximately 21% of the population will meet the criteria for addiction in their lifetime, drastically impacting families, workplaces and our communities.

Candace Plattor, M.A., R.C.C., is a professional speaker and Addictions Therapist in private practice in Vancouver, specializing in working with the family and other loved ones of people struggling with addiction. As a former opioid addict with over 35 years clean and sober now, Candace has learned that overcoming addiction takes education and support from everyone – family, friends, workplaces and community. She is the award-winning author of "Loving an Addict, Loving Yourself: The Top 10 Survival Tips for Loving Someone with an Addiction”.
