"Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society and ExplorAsian Festival" by Leticia Sanchez  

The Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society,(VAHMS) is an umbrella non-profit cultural organization that works towards building an inclusive collaboration and social integration of Asian and Pan-Asian communities in our multicultural society through the arts, cultural heritage, and education. For the past twenty-three years of existence, explorASIAN festival happening in the month of May has earned wide recognition for celebrating and bridging together Asian and Canadian communities through arts, education, and social advocacy.

VAHMS promotes multicultural dialogue and collaboration. Together we share, reinforce, and preserve Asian Heritage in Vancouver and beyond.

Leticia Sanchez, is President of VAHMS and an independent art exhibitions producer, curator, and gallery administrator. Her specialties include Gallery Operations and Visitor Services Management, Facility Conservation, Museum Retail Management, and Art and Exhibitions programming and development. Leticia holds a master’s degree in education from the Anahuac University in Mexico, City and is a certified Overseas Teacher of English from Cambridge University via the British Council in Cambridge. Known for being a proactive leader, capable of driving creativity and high performance in the fields of education and arts, Leticia has led and trained teachers and staff since 1992.

In her more than ten years tenure as the Head of Cultural Experience at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Leticia led the operational organization of the Garden Museum including Art Programs and Exhibitions. As an independent curator, Leticia has produced different art and community projects such as “Embracing Multicultural Languages” in 2015, “Following the Silk Routes and Beyond in Vancouver”  2016 to 2018, Leticia acted as an advisor for the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre Exhibits & Programming Advisory Committee at UBC, is a member of the Canadian Society for Asian Arts and the Chinese Canadian Historical Society. She joined the Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society Board of Directors in 2015 and was appointed President of the board in 2018. In her role as VAHMS volunteer President of the Board, Leticia strives to uphold the organization's mission, vision, and values by promoting understanding and appreciation for Pan-Asian and Asian-Canadian heritage, arts, and culture.
