Sunny Day at the Garry Point
Masking, basking and repasting. Rotary is more than service. Rotary is also about warm memories. After 6 months not meeting in person, we finally ventured into Garry Point Park for a socially distanced lunch.

To say it was nice to see our Rotary friends is an understatement. It’s been 6 months of online Zoom chats. Zoom doesn’t allow us any real bonding time. We can’t break off into small groups to really catch up. We don’t realize just how much we miss our social connections. Rotary gives us that weekly opportunity for a nice chin wag.

After 6 months, we can say we truly count this day as a wonderful Rotary memory. And as we learned of the passing of Angie’s father, it punctuates that each and every moment we can visit each other is truly valuable.

Picture 17 of us basking under warm welcoming sunlight, socially distanced and all masked up. That's a visual to etch into your memory. A bit of lunch arranged by Claudette, and the picture is complete. Thanks to Dave and Angie and President James for the arrangements. Great to see our friends Gilles and Lois Bouchard dropped by to say hi.

May be the photos does not show we are smiling, but we are all grinning, ear to ear.

Keith Tsukishima

Classification: Hotel Management, joined Rotary in 1987 in Winnipeg, Club President 2002-2003, 2006-2007, 2014-2015

Keith spent his childhood in Southern Alberta, later moved to Prince George. After graduated from UBC in computer science, he ended up working in Hotel Management with the same company for 35 years.

Besides attending many District Conferences, Keith enjoys attending Rotary Conventions with fellow Rotarians and their spouses, his first convention was San Antonio in 2001, then Barcelona in 2002, Osaka in 2004, Copenhagen in 2006, Montreal 2010, Bangkok 2012 and Taiwan 2021.

Why Keith is a Rotarian...

One might say that Rotary discovered me in Winnipeg. “Service to Others” was a foreign concept until Rotarians talked to me about community spirit.  Through Rotary I have met many good friends and the rewarding feeling of doing something worthwhile. My happiest moments with Rotary are with Rotarians at an International Convention, there, one sees, feels and truly comprehends the vastness of Rotary service throughout the world. After one International Conference, you change from being a name in a Rotary Club to becoming a Rotarian.

Two major inspirational milestones changed the course of my career.  One was Rotary, where I found a network of business and professional people to expand my base of connections.  Rotary also was instrumental in providing an environment of support and doing good things for others.  The other milestone was Toastmasters, which dovetailed with Rotary, provided the skill set required to work and communicate in group dynamics.

The people in these two organizations set out a path of community involvement which advanced my career and fulfilled my sense of “Service Above Self”.
